Description
Abixa (Memantine) Coated Tablets 10 mg.
Composition
- Each coated tablet contains 10 mg. of memantine hydrochloride, equivalent to 8.31 mg. of memantine.
- Other ingredients: microcrystalline cellulose, crospovidone, colloidal silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, macrogol, titanium dioxide, and iron oxide yellow.
Indications
Abixa (memantine) is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer’s disease.
Dosage and Administration
Initiation of treatment
The recommended starting dose is 5 mg. once daily. The dose should be increased in 5 mg. increments to the maintenance dose of 20 mg. once daily.
Maintenance dose
The recommended maintenance dose is 20 mg. once daily.
Abixa should be taken orally, with or without food. The tablets should be swallowed whole and not crushed or chewed.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to memantine or any of the excipients.
Precautions and Warnings
Patients should be monitored for signs of seizures. Caution is advised in patients with a history of seizures or with risk factors for seizures.
Adverse Reactions
The most common adverse reactions include dizziness, headache, constipation, and somnolence.
Storage
Store at 15-30°C, in the original package to protect from moisture and light.
Keep out of the reach of children.
