Description
Aclasta is a bisphosphonate medication used to treat osteoporosis, Paget’s disease of bone, and prevent bone loss in patients with bone metastases. It is administered as a single annual intravenous infusion.
Dosage and Administration
The recommended dose of Aclasta is 5 mg, given as a single intravenous infusion over no less than 15 minutes once yearly.
Preparation and Administration
1. Inspect the Aclasta vial for any particulate matter or discoloration prior to administration. 2. Withdraw the entire content of the vial and dilute it in 100 ml. of sterile 0.9% sodium chloride solution or 5% glucose solution. 3. Gently mix the infusion solution by inverting the bag. Do not shake. 4. Infuse the diluted solution over no less than 15 minutes. 5. After infusion, flush the line with 0.9% sodium chloride solution or 5% glucose solution.
Storage
Store Aclasta vials at 2°C to 8°C (36°F to 46°F). Protect from light.
