Acnetin (Isotretinoin) 16 mg, 30 Capsules

Acnetin is a prescription medication containing the active ingredient isotretinoin, which is used to treat severe, recalcitrant nodular acne. Isotretinoin is a derivative of vitamin A and works by reducing sebum production, decreasing inflammation, and normalizing skin cell growth and shedding.

Dosage and Administration

The recommended initial dose of Acnetin is 0.5 mg/kg per day, taken in two divided doses with food. The dose may be increased up to 1 mg/kg per day, as tolerated, based on the patient’s response and side effects.

Dosage Adjustment

– Patients with metabolic disorders or liver disease may require lower starting doses and more frequent monitoring.
– The total cumulative dose should not exceed 150 mg/kg.

Administration Instructions

1. Swallow the Acnetin capsules whole with a full glass of water or other liquid, during or immediately after a meal.
2. Do not crush, chew, or suck on the capsules, as this may increase the risk of side effects.
3. Take the capsules at the same time each day for consistent drug levels.
4. Avoid taking Acnetin with vitamin supplements containing vitamin A, as this may increase the risk of hypervitaminosis A.

Precautions and Warnings

– Acnetin is teratogenic and can cause severe birth defects. Effective contraception must be used during and for 1 month after treatment.
– Acnetin may cause changes in lipid levels, liver function, and mental health. Periodic monitoring is required.
– Patients should avoid donating blood during and for 1 month after Acnetin treatment.

Storage

Store Acnetin capsules at room temperature, between 15°C and 30°C (59°F and 86°F). Protect from light and moisture.
